Care Attendant - FT (Night) - Grand Rapids, MN

Position details: Full-time night schedule in our memory care unit.

Key Accountabilities

  • Check residents routinely to ensure that their personal care needs are being met.
  • Have a solid understanding of the dementia process.
  • Must communicate effectively with both resident and resident families.
  • Must have patience, tact and knowledge to properly respond to behaviors resulting from dementia and/or memory issues, memory loss and/or other mental instabilities or illnesses.
  • When necessary, divert, re-position and/or isolate situations to assure resident and employee safety and comfort. 
  • Assist residents with preparation and transport to/from appointments, activities, meals, and social programs as necessary.
  • Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s); i.e. dental and mouth care, dressing/ undressing, hair care, toileting, personal hygiene, and other duties as directed. Follow scheduled reminders for resident ADLs.
  • Complete delegated nursing tasks as assigned
  • Lift, turn, move, position, and transport residents into and out of beds, chairs, showers, etc. as necessary.
  • Support residents in walking with or without self-help devices as instructed.
  • Aid residents in preparation for medical tests and doctor’s appointments as necessary. This includes proper completion of physician visit forms.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor in demanding situations.
  • Observe, document, and report all changes in residents’ condition to the RN as soon as practical.

Education and Experience

  • High School education or GED.
  • 1-2 years’ health care industry experience preferred.
  • Dementia / Memory Care training a plus, but will be provided.
  • CNA certification a plus.

 Requirements

  • Follow all policies and procedures.
  • Must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Must be able to relate information concerning residents’ condition.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant action.
  • Must receive a "not disqualified" criminal background result and may not be on the OIG exclusions list.
  • Stays up to date on all required training.
  • Understands and adheres to the Vulnerable Adult and Abuse Policy. Is familiar with the Resident’s Bill of Rights and adheres to it.
