Vista Prairie Communities will join in celebrating National Assisted Living Week (NALW) 2018 from Sunday, September 9 through Saturday, September 15. Established by the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) in 1995, National Assisted Living Week provides a unique opportunity for residents, their loved ones, staff, volunteers and the surrounding communities to recognize the role of assisted living in caring for America’s seniors.

This year’s National Assisted Living Week theme is “Capture the Moment.” This theme hopes to inspire assisted living residents to acknowledge their dreams and seize the day.

In addition—through word play—the theme is hoping residents reminisce on their favorite past times through pictures or videos. Looking at pictures from the past is a great way to celebrate their favorite times but also share their history to their loved ones.

National Assisted Living Week is designed to excite people in assisted living homes and communities to continue to live their life to the fullest. There is a stigma that seniors in senior living communities don’t have purpose in life but this week wants to reverse that stigma.

There are many ways seniors can continue to live their life whether that’s through volunteering, finding a new hobby or passion, staying active or engaging in community activities.

In honor of National Assisted Living Week, celebrate by visiting your loved one in their community and capture the moment. One way to do this is to record and take account of your day together and put it together in a scrap book so you can look back on it forever. Another option would be go through old photos of your loved one’s past and simply listen their stories and their history.

Located throughout Minnesota, Iowa and Ohio, our assisted living communities celebrate seniors’ purpose and passion for life. We provide the best solution for seniors that value their independence, yet want access to affordable personal care and supportive services should they need them.

Each of our senior living communities has 24-hour staffing available to meet anticipated, as well as unexpected, needs of each Assisted Living resident. Our trained staff are dedicated to becoming a member of each resident’s extended family, supporting their needs in a warm and caring environment.

The annual observance of National Assisted Living Week encourages seniors and their loved ones to not only capture the moment but remember their great past times and reignite their fire for the passions they once had or find new ones and to never forget: seize the day!
