Did you know? August 21 is National Senior Citizens Day. This day was created to honor and show appreciation to the seniors in our lives. It gives us a chance to celebrate their achievements and express the value they hold in our lives.

If you want to celebrate National Senior Citizens Day with one of your loved ones, we have a few ideas for how to celebrate this special day below.

Surprise them:
Take the holiday and dedicate it to your loved one. Instead of picking up the phone and giving them a call, head over to their home for an in-person visit instead! Although, it’s always nice to hear a friendly voice over the phone, it’s extra special to spend face-to-face quality time with the ones you love most.

Listen:
Grandparents spend most of their lives catching up on what’s new in their family’s life. Spend National Senior Citizen’s Day listening to their life stories. This is a simple way to show them they are appreciated and loved for who they are and what they’ve been through!

Have fun:
Sometimes we can forget senior citizens like to have fun too. On this holiday, bring the fun to them. Whether you spend the afternoon playing games or take them on an adventure to the movies or to their favorite restaurant, bringing a smile and some laughs to the seniors in your life is a great way to spend the day.

Help out:
Simple acts of kindness can go a long way, especially with your loved ones. Try tidying up their homes a little bit or emptying the dishwasher for them. The smallest acts of kindness can always be appreciated by anyone.

Say, “I love you”:
The last and best way to celebrate National Senior Citizens Day is to simply tell the senior in your life that you love them. This may seem like the easiest way to celebrate this holiday but it could be the best as well. It never gets old to hear that you are loved – remember that and say it to your senior on August 21!

There are plenty of other ways to show gratitude to seniors in your life as well. Try one or all of these ways to celebrate National Senior Citizens Day on August 21.
