Mary Jo Hannasch has dedicated her career to improving the lives of seniors who suffer from memory loss. With over 25 years of experience working with Midwest seniors and dementia, Mary Jo has become a recognized expert and speaker on memory loss including Alzheimer’s disease.
Mary Jo has brought that passion and expertise to the Vista Prairie Communities family. As Memory Care and Care Suites Coordinator at Vista Prairie at Garnette Gardens Senior Living Community in Redwood Falls, MN, Mary Jo has big plans to help residents and their families. Not only will she focus on educating staff and families on the dementia process and techniques for communicating effectively with loves ones with dementia, but she’ll spend time developing creative solutions such as aromatherapy and pet companionship to help each tenant though the day. She will also launch her program “Endings and Beginnings” to the Redwood Falls community. Mary Jo developed the family support groups that educate family members on dementia-related topics in 2000.
“I look forward to helping residents, families, and the community with dementia care,” Mary Jo said about joining the Garnette Gardens team.
Her care and compassion in the fields of aging and memory care have received much recognition. She was the recipient of the Ruth Blom Award from Concordia College and winner of the YWCA’s Woman of the Year award in health care.
When Mary Jo isn’t serving on an advisory board or speaking to a group of social work students, you can find her camping, playing pinochle or watching James Bond.
