September 13-19 is National Assisted Living Week, a time the National Center for Assisted Living set aside in 1995 to recognize assisted living residents, caregivers, family, and friends and show them how much we care. This year’s theme is “Nourishing Life: Mind, Body, Spirit.” Providing care that nurtures the whole resident is something we strive for every day in each and every Vista Prairie Community. The care a person receives as they age has a profound impact on their physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing, which is why choosing the right assisted living community is such an important decision.
Helping a loved one make the choice to move to assisted living and select a senior living community can be a stressful challenge. It’s a difficult conversation to start with your aging parent. It can be easy to wonder if you’re doing the right thing, but it’s important to remind yourself and your parent that there are many invaluable benefits to moving to a senior living community. They’ll gain independence, 24/7 care, a social community, and a better quality of life.
Of course, it starts with choosing the right senior living community. There are several different kinds of care and other factors to consider when making your decision. Among the factors you should consider are location, amenities, activities, services, and how the community will meet your loved one’s individual needs. The multitude of options can make the decision-making process overwhelming for both you and your parent.
To help with this important decision, Vista Prairie Communities has put together a guide to the various senior housing options. The guide provides a clear breakdown of the different types of senior care to help enhance your understanding so that you can make a confident, informed decision as you start planning for this next journey with your loved ones.
